Roberto Carcangiu is a passionate engineering manager with over 15 years of experience in software and web development. Currently, he serves as a Senior Engineering Manager at bol.com, where he contributes to challenging projects and initiatives. Roberto believes in creating an environment that motivates, challenges, and empowers professionals to perform at their best. He is a big fan of agility and learning by experimenting and thrives in companies that allow employees to be themselves, work hard, and play harder. Roberto has developed a passion for data engineering in recent years and enjoys the challenges associated with providing valuable information to support reporting, operations, and knowledge discovery. He has worked with various programming languages, including PHP, Javascript, Python, Java, and C++. Roberto is a big fan of engineering principles such as CI/CD, monitoring & alerting, experimentation, peer programming & reviews, YAGNI, SOLID, and KISS, and strives to implement them in his companies and teams. In addition to his current role, Roberto has held various positions in the past, including Technical Project Manager at Regione Autonoma della Sardegna and PHP Lead Developer at La Nuova Posta. He has managed several IT projects, including public works monitoring systems, public tenders monitoring systems, and accreditation systems for professionals and businesses. Roberto has a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the Università degli Studi di Cagliari. Roberto's technical skills include senior software engineering, data science, data engineering, recommendation systems, web development, CI/CD, Javascript, PHP, Python, and Java. He is currently working as a C++ Developer at emoney, where he has created an interface to manage credit card ticket purchasing in all the Italian Warner Village cinemas. The interface had to check credit card information integrity, forward transactions to the bank system, return transaction results to the source, and track every information managed for statistics. Roberto has reengineered an old procedure with a more powerful C++ program, supported by PostgreSQL database, for the same company.
