Rohan Rao is a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in electronics, computer vision, deep learning, and robotics. He is currently working at NVIDIA as a Senior System Software Engineer, Autonomous Vehicles, where he is responsible for developing full-stack autonomous driving systems, spanning perception, planning, and simulation, as well as custom NVIDIA DRIVE hardware. He has also built automated tools and infrastructure for AV software deployment and streamlined processes and workflows across cross-functional teams, saving thousands of hours of provisioning effort. Rohan has been an engineering lead for the integration and bring-up of next-gen ATG-B Fleet Software deliveries to Mercedes-Benz and the rollout of ATG-B platforms and software to the entire NVIDIA fleet. Before joining NVIDIA, Rohan worked on his own startup, where he raised over $100,000, filed four provisional patents, published two papers at a conference in Japan, participated and won autonomous driving events in China and India, and interviewed with and were awarded an equity-free grant from Y Combinator in Silicon Valley. He has also interned with PIX Moving in China, where he worked on multi-LIDAR and camera calibration, building point cloud maps and HD maps, and testing waypoint following and dynamic path planning on full-sized SUVs and sedans. During Summer 2020, he interned with NVIDIA in the DriveAV Systems Software team, where he worked on sensor calibration, simulation, system integration, and unit/functional test development. Rohan completed his Integrated Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering (with a minor in Robotics) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He also pursued his Master of Science in Robotic Systems Development at Carnegie Mellon University, where he worked with PIX Moving and a team of four other students for his Capstone Project, which involves the development of Payload Carrying, Navigation, and Docking Behaviours for Autonomous Vehicles. He also worked with CMU's AIR Lab on dynamic multi-drone human pose reconstruction and published a paper at IROS 2021.
