Roman Atachiants is a Principal Software Engineer at Careem, Uber Inc. with over 8 years of relevant experience in the field of software and data engineering. He has a strong interest in cloud, distributed systems, data science, parallel computing, and information visualization. Currently, he is working as a data architect at Careem, while continuing to build experimentation and machine learning platforms for the organization. Roman has previously worked as the Head of Data Science - Group Data at AirAsia, where he helped build a holistic platform for Data Science at the AirAsia's Center of Excellence. The platform is intended to cover all facets of Data Science including data ingestion, configuration, metrics, segmentation, experimentation, optimization, simulation, model serving, and model training. Most notably, he has formed two teams and shipped an in-house experimentation platform in AirAsia. He has also worked as the Principal Software Engineer - Transport Technology at Grab, where his mission consisted of making Grab transportation & dispatch more flexible, scalable and making Grab more efficient as a whole. He helped to empower their driver-partners and merchants to earn more while improving the experience of their customers by providing a flexible transportation platform that can enable countless new products. Roman has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin, an M.Sc in Artificial Intelligence from Maastricht University, and a B.Sc in Computer Science from HEPL - Haute Ecole de la Province de Liège. He has a strong tech stack that includes Software Engineering, AI, Data Science, Data Engineering, Senior Software Engineering, ML, and Research Scientist.
