Romil Mittal is a technology leader with over 17 years of experience in building tech products and managing large engineering teams. He has a vast understanding and hands-on experience with mobile, web, and deep learning. Romil has published patents in digital media technology domains and has experience working in a cross-geo environment to successfully deliver complex projects with numerous stakeholders. Currently, Romil is the Director of Amazon Maps, Last Mile Logistics, where he is responsible for delivering billions of packages to Amazon customers every year. He leads the team that creates and manages delivery "routes" using geospatial data to model the physical world. Romil's team is building cutting-edge research and tools to ensure that Amazon drivers can deliver packages safely, at the right location, on-time, and in an efficient manner. Prior to this, Romil was the Director of Under the Roof Technology, Last Mile Logistics, at Amazon, where he led the Product and Technology division that powered the operations at thousands of last-mile delivery hubs worldwide. His organization managed the entire lifecycle of a package inside a hub as well as across multiple hubs in the last-mile journey of a package. Romil has also worked as the VP Technology, India R&D Head, at APUS Group, where he was responsible for building technology in the areas of Computer Vision, Android, and NLP. He led the technology charter and teams for these areas, as well as taking care of the Operations and HR for the R&D center. Romil and his team built a computer vision engine that can work completely on a mobile device in offline mode, supporting various capabilities like detecting objects in a photo, detecting age and gender of a person, creating a fun sticker from a face, building advanced prisma-like filters, swapping faces of two persons, detecting the background in a photo, and so on. Romil has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from M.B.M. Engineering College, Jodhpur. He has a tech stack that includes Mobile, Deep Learning, Research Scientist, Web, Computer Vision, Product Manager, NLP, Senior Software Engineer, and Android. With over 20 years of relevant experience, Romil is an expert in his field and is currently hiring software developers and managers.
