Roshan Sumbaly is a highly accomplished engineering leader with over 13 years of experience in the tech industry. He is currently the Lead at Facebook AI, where he is responsible for building multimodal embodied agents for the company's AR wearable line. Prior to this, he led various foundational computer vision teams at Facebook AI, focusing on problems ranging from combating misinformation to people understanding to even self-serve data/training platforms. He has also led Facebook AI programs around efficiency, better engineering, and critical privacy efforts. Before joining Facebook AI, Roshan served as the Director of Engineering at Coursera, where he led large parts of engineering, including growth, infrastructure, university product, and enterprise teams. He helped launch two new business lines - online degree programs and enterprise - which grew to $XXM in less than 18 months. He also drove the introduction of levels and rubric, performance management, manager apprenticeship program, compensation strategy, vendor and budget management for engineering. Roshan started his career as an IC working on various distributed infrastructure at LinkedIn, including key-value store, streaming system (Kafka), job scheduler, OLAP system, A/B testing platform, forecasting system, and call-graph monitoring. He later moved onto relevance aspects of data products, including "People You May Know" and other growth products. Finally, he moved to management to lead the team that re-engineered the news feed. He also helped with engineering-wide architecture review and maintaining branding micro-sites. Roshan holds a degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He is highly skilled in AI, computer vision, infra, senior software engineering, ML, big data, test, Kafka, and web technologies. Roshan is a LinkedIn and Coursera Alum and has spoken at various conferences, including Strata, KDD, ICDE, FAST, VLDB, SIGMOD, and CIKM. He is also an organizer of the AI track at @Scale 2019 and a speaker at F8 2019 and O'Reilly AI Conference 2019.
