Ryan Tobin is a highly skilled Software Engineer with over 7 years of relevant experience in the industry. He is currently working at Google as a Software Engineer, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining software applications. Prior to joining Google, Ryan worked as a Full Stack Software Engineer at Matroid, a computer vision startup. During his time there, he conceptualized, designed, and implemented tools for visualizing the results of running deep learning models on various types of media using React. He also built a video player for detected events, stream event calendar, and studio for curating training data. Ryan led several data schema, software architecture, and feature designs primarily implemented using the MERN stack (MongoDB/Express/React/Node.js). Before joining Matroid, Ryan worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. During his time there, he developed new code and algorithms primarily in Python to implement general large-scale quantum lattice gas simulations on 1000+ cores. He also helped create the first-ever Bose-Einstein Condensate in Hawaii. The system used laser optics to trap and cool atoms to a point where quantum effects are apparent, with applications in quantum information, condensed matter/atomic physics. Ryan explored quantum computation algorithms for highly accurate and efficient physics simulations. Ryan holds a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the University of California, Davis. He also completed a full-stack web development program at App Academy. Ryan is proficient in a wide range of technologies, including Software Engineering, Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Javascript, MongoDB, UI, NodeJS, Research Scientist, and Python. He is a highly motivated individual with excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for learning new technologies.
