GIAN Course Launches on “Standard Model Effective Field Theories and Applications to Higgs, Neutrinos, and Dark Matter” today on December 09, 2024 IIT Guwahati is proud to announce the launch of a high-impact course under the prestigious Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) Phase- IV, titled “Standard Model Effective Field Theories and Applications to Higgs, Neutrinos, and Dark Matter,” this course was launched on 9th December and will run till 13th December 2024 and aims to advance understanding in cutting-edge areas of theoretical physics. This course is jointly organised by the Centre for Educational Technology (CET) and the Department of Physics. The Government of India's Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) is a one-of-a-kind program that aims to tap into the expertise of renowned foreign scientists and academics while encouraging active collaboration with Indian universities. The program intends to improve the country's academic and research infrastructure, accelerate quality improvements, and establish India as a global leader in scientific and technical excellence. This five-day intensive course covers · Effective Field Theories (EFTs): Bridging the Standard Model with Extensions. · Exploring the Higgs Sector: Properties and Roles in the Universe. · Neutrino Physics: Understanding their masses, oscillations, and interactions. · Unlocking the secrets of dark matter with EFT techniques. The seminar, led by Dr. Subhaditya Bhattacharya of the Department of Physics and guest professor Prof. Jose Wudka of the University of California, Riverside, delves into cutting-edge particle physics subjects. Effective field theories, the Higgs mechanism, neutrino physics, and research into dark matter are all important. “This course offers a unique opportunity to engage with advanced theoretical frameworks and their experimental implications,” said Dr. Bhattacharya, while Prof. Wudka expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to this exciting academic endeavour.
