Saikat Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, with a focus on work, employment, and livelihoods. He has a PhD in Organizational Behaviour from IIM and an MBA from IIT Roorkee. He also has a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the National Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology Ranchi (formerly NIFFT). With over eight years of relevant experience, Saikat is a seasoned research scientist who has engaged with topics of dignity at work, precarity, and informality. He works primarily with qualitative methods, viewing them as a field of study in their own right. He is presently exploring the possibilities of narrative methodology as a meaningful and creative form of doing and understanding social research. In addition to his research, Saikat enjoys teaching courses in human resource management, work, employment relations, and qualitative methods in post-graduate and doctoral programs. He has previously held positions as an Assistant Professor at XIM University and as a Principal Investigator at the Prayas Centre for Labour Research and Action. Overall, Saikat is a highly qualified and experienced academic with a passion for understanding the complexities of work, employment, and livelihoods.
