Sameer Awasekar is a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft, currently working on the distributed store and HA layer of CosmosDB. With over 7 years of experience in the database domain and distributed storage systems, Sameer has a deep understanding of cloud-native resource management, consistency models, replication, and distributed system concepts. At CosmosDB, Sameer has actively contributed to the design and development of optimizations, pricing, and the Partial Document Update feature, which allows customers to partially update documents across regions with transparent conflict-free updates. He has also gained exposure to various cloud-native technologies and distributed system concepts that come naturally as a part of CosmosDB product. Before joining Microsoft, Sameer worked at SAP Labs HANA Database, where he contributed to the development of Elastic Buffer Manager as a part of the Native Store Extension team. His notable contributions include dynamic memory balancing strategies across memory pools. During his initial days of career, Sameer worked on Buffer Manager and Lock Manager layers as a part of Sybase ASE at SAP Labs. Sameer holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering from Solapur University, Solapur. He has relevant experience of 8.95 years in software engineering, SQL, and Azure.
