Samik Banik is a passionate software engineer with over 7 years of experience in Android development. Currently working as a Software Engineer at Meta, he has a proven track record of building successful products from scratch. Samik is well-versed in the startup ecosystem and is always open to learning new technologies. In his previous role as Android Lead at Mishipay, Samik migrated the payment functionalities of the MishiPay app to clean architecture, with MVVM architecture in the presentation layer. He also migrated the legacy Java code base to Kotlin to reduce null pointer exceptions and simplify consecutive network calls with coroutines. Samik integrated Google’s ML Kit to decode digital boarding passes for MishiPay users at Dufry’s World Duty Free store at Zurich Airport. He set up and integrated Lokalise APIs to reduce development time spent on localizations. Samik developed, tested, and maintained the Decathlon Scan & Go self-checkout Android app live in the Netherlands, Germany, and Israel. He added a feature of printing receipts to the retailer-facing MishiPay dashboard Android app, by connecting any Android phone/tablet to a Bluetooth enabled POS printer. Samik also developed an Android Wear app to notify store staff about Scan & Go customer scans and purchases, thus providing live data for staff engagement to improve the customer journey. As an Android Developer at Mishipay, Samik developed, tested, and maintained the MishiPay Scan & Go self-checkout Android app from scratch. He built an abstraction layer to facilitate payment with multiple payment gateways like Stripe, Adyen, OnePay, WorldPay, and wallets like Google Pay and PayPal, based on user location. Samik developed the Saturn Express Android app for the pilot project for the first cashier-less consumer electronics store in Europe, at Innsbruck, in 2018, by the MediaMarkt Saturn group. The pilot project was live for 3 months and had close to 6000 downloads. He added NFC scanning capabilities to the Saturn Express app for scanning electronic shelf labels in the store, thus providing customers with an additional method for self-checkout. Samik also learnt React Native to rapidly build and deploy the retailer-facing dashboard from scratch for both Android and iOS. Samik holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from Christ University, Bangalore, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata.
