Samir Ranjan Parhi is a passionate IT professional with over 5 years of experience in building and architecting highly available IT infrastructure based on Kubernetes. He is an expert in implementing Service Mesh for Service discovery while ensuring data security during transit. He has implemented various best practices and DORA metric analysis to achieve high productivity. Samir's personal favorites include distributed tracing and monitoring. He loves to mentor people at various stages of their development and operation. Currently, Samir is working as an Open Source Developer at layer5. His responsibilities include evaluating the product with intense testing, providing comments and feature improvement suggestions, reviewing various pull requests, committing to the codebase (for the DevOps and Golang), and taking part in various community and brainstorming meetings. In the past, Samir has worked as a Senior DevOps Consultant at Asteria Aerospace, where he migrated Azure native services to the K8S environment and implemented best practices around it. He containerized the application (Python, Go, React) resulting in a secured and optimized image. He performed various load and performance testing with Fortio to benchmark individual microservices. He set up and tuned the observability stack with Grafana, Prometheus, and Loki. He configured and served up various Azure services according to the business needs, took care of BAU tasks, and configured API management and policies for various APIs (JWT validation and rate limiting). He wrote Helm charts for various K8S workload deployments, created Azure pipelines for various CICD setups (both YAML-based and traditional), and optimized the Azure cost center depending on various metrics. He also implemented best practices in Git with the help of Sonar and Nexus and coached the team to keep pace with current technology trends. Before Asteria Aerospace, Samir worked as a Design Engineer Professional at BT, where he transformed the existing DevOps practice according to current trends, technology, and tools. He set up K8S Cluster and containerized the application with Docker. He wrote Groovy-based shared library Jenkins pipelines to templatize CICD pipelines and onboarded the internal customer to the Service platform by creating a self-service portal. He monitored the pipeline with Grafana, Influx DB, and determined the DORA metrics. He reviewed the shared library modules and approved pull requests and advised the team on various effective branching and deployment strategies.
