Sandip Mahanta is an experienced engineering manager with a proven track record of leading outstanding teams in building last-mile delivery systems for online grocery delivery. Currently serving as the Director of Engineering at Piramal Finance, Sandip has a wealth of experience in software design and developing microservices that are highly scalable, particularly during e-commerce holiday seasons. With over 13 years of relevant experience, Sandip is proficient in Java, Scala, Cassandra, Apache Spark, and RDBMS. He has a deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and optimization. Prior to joining Piramal Finance, Sandip worked as a Senior Engineering Manager I at Walmart, where he created a team in Bengaluru that built a home-grown last-mile delivery system from scratch for Walmart Online Grocery's home delivery. He led the team to build various components for the last-mile delivery system, including a driver management system, a live order tracking system, and a driver matching platform. Sandip focused on reducing the cost per delivery by implementing batching of multiple orders in a single trip. He expanded the system to various markets, including GM delivery for Walmart and Grocery for Walmart Mexico. Sandip's past experience also includes working as a Staff Software Engineer at Walmart, where he was part of the Online Grocery last mile delivery Smart Sourcing team. Sandip holds a degree in Science from DAV Public School, where he completed his 12th grade. He is skilled in various technologies, including microservices, big data, search, MySQL, Kafka, and Apache Hive.
