Sankalp Kumar is a cybersecurity expert with over 3.7 years of experience in software development and research focused on attack detection and protection. He has worked on some of the key features for Next Generation Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS/IDS/NGFW) and has expertise in building software for network protocol stack at various layers L2, L3, L4, and L7. He has worked on protocols such as HTTP, TCP, IP, VLAN, FTP, SNMP, DNS, TLS, and MPLS. Sankalp has exposure to building software with high throughput, which has given him an opportunity to learn the internals of Data Path Development Kit (DPDK) and various NIC drivers. He has adequate experience in dealing with memory corruption, analyzing performance bottlenecks, and cost of operation/generation of newer platforms. Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland, Sankalp is working on enhancing his skills by building software that inculcates secure software coding practices with the use of threat modeling, Microsoft's STRIDE, and working rigorously on attack surface reduction. He is also studying different vulnerabilities, including buffer overflow, integer security, string format vulnerabilities, advanced buffer overflow attacks to bypass ASLR, and has a strong foundation in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Sankalp is currently working as a Software Engineer Intern, Cybersecurity at Juniper Networks, where he is working on building security features, analyzing security for products, and helping run Secure Development Lifecycle. In his previous roles, he has worked as a Research Assistant, Software Security at Fraunhofer USA Center Mid-Atlantic (CMA), and as a Software Engineer 3, Network Security at McAfee. Sankalp holds a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with a minor in Big Data from Manipal Institute of Technology and has completed his CBSE Intermediate and Matric from Delhi Public School. His tech stack includes Software Engineer, SQL, Research Scientist, infra, and test. Overall, Sankalp has 2.86 years of relevant experience in the field of cybersecurity and software development.
