Sanketh Shetty is a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager at Instagram, currently working at Facebook. With over 12 years of relevant experience, he has a diverse product and research background across various Machine Learning and Data problems in Vision, Recommendations, Predictive User Analytics, and Video Analysis. Sanketh has built and scaled teams at both Instagram and Google, where he formulated ML strategies for large organizations. He is a problem-solver at heart, and he thrives in ambiguity. At Instagram, Sanketh supports the Business Recommendations team of 70+ Engineers, working end-to-end on the recommendation system and UX that helps Instagram users connect with businesses they trust and love through ads and ad-like content. Previously, he also supported a team of 40+ Engineers and 3 Engineering Managers across three areas (Quality, Supply, and Trust) working on "people value" for Ads and Commercial content on Instagram. The team spanned machine learning, systems, and product engineers. They worked on end-to-end problems for recommendation systems, from building front-end for user feedback and surveys to backends for ads supply and ranking to machine learning and value function for ads and organic ranking systems. Sanketh has a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering (emphasis on Computer Vision) from North Carolina State University. His technical skills include Senior Software Engineering, ML, Recommendation systems, Frontend, Research Scientist, Backend, and Infra.
