Sarah Bird is a seasoned Senior Staff Software Engineer with over 16 years of relevant experience in the technology industry. She is currently employed by Mozilla as the Sr. Staff Software Engineer for Privacy & Security Products. Sarah has a passion for open source technology and is known for having an open mind when it comes to solving complex problems. Sarah has worked for Mozilla for many years, holding various positions within the organization. She started as a Staff Research Engineer for Mozilla Applied Machine Learning, where she worked on several projects focused on privacy-enhancing technologies. She was later promoted to Staff Software Engineer for Privacy & Security Products and is currently the Technical Lead of the Product Engineering subteam, supervising three senior research engineers. One of Sarah's notable achievements was leading a project that demonstrated the possibility of reidentifying users based on their browsing history alone. The paper was peer-reviewed and published in August 2020 at the USENIX Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS). She is currently leading the scoping of new product features to enhance user privacy based on the threats enumerated in the browsing history paper and other papers from their research group. Sarah is also working on a project to measure browser API usage by collecting and modeling Firefox users' activities within a privacy-preserving framework. She has collaborated with the webcompat team to begin the initial project scoping. Sarah has a Master of Science degree in Technology and Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering and a BA degree in General Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
