Sartaj Singh is a VP of Engineering (Platforms) at Gojek, with over 8 years of relevant experience in building and scaling backend and frontend systems. He is a writer at heart, experienced in various programming languages, including functional paradigms, such as Clojure, Golang, Ruby, and Java. Sartaj is a firm believer in decisions over reactions, emphasizing the importance of analysis and patience in the former. At Gojek, Sartaj is responsible for driving growth, standardization, and platformization of core engineering/cloud systems to improve their ability to deploy, observe, and manage systems successfully and efficiently. He has experience in building backend systems, devops, writing microservices, web services, managing cloud infra, and handling systems at scale. Additionally, he is experienced in engineering platforms and data science models integrations and in leading, managing, and growing teams. Sartaj has previously worked as a Head of Engineering at Gojek, where he led a group of over 40 engineers, including four engineering managers, responsible for matching drivers with customers, incentivizing drivers to be on the platform, and providing the right price for each booking to balance demand and supply. He was also responsible for the overall stability of the system, designing system architecture, delivery, recruitment, and growing the team. Before joining Gojek, Sartaj worked as a Tech Lead at Go, where he was responsible for maintaining and enhancing the platform that does customer-driver matching, tracking locations of over 1 million drivers, finding the optimum price and surge for every Gojek order. He worked on various projects, including route/ETA based allocation of drivers to customers, batched allocation to gain global optimization in the marketplace, and enhancing the allocation, pricing platform for multi-country deployments. Sartaj holds a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. He is experienced in technologies such as Ansible, Ruby, Data Scientist, Microservices, DevOps, Frontend, Web, infra, Redis, Kafka, GCP, RabbitMQ, Golang, Java, Kubernetes, and Clojure.
