Shanmugaapriyan P is a highly experienced Member Technical Staff at Zoho Corporation with over 7 years of experience in the field of software engineering. He is currently working on scaling up the performance of analytical queries for Zoho CRM’s NoSQL backend. He is also investigating the possibilities of providing dynamic seek options and thereby aiming to reduce query latencies. Shanmugaapriyan has benchmarked the performance of popular big data ecosystems such as HBase-Phoenix and Presto-Hadoop. The latter proved to be better after extensive parameter tuning. Currently, he is assessing NewSQL systems like CockroachDB for the same. In his past roles at Zoho Corporation, Shanmugaapriyan has addressed the problem of storing smaller files and providing basic analytical support for time-series data using HBase. He has migrated the data from Apache Cassandra to HBase as it yields better read performance and also cuts down the overhead of maintaining different platforms in their application. Shanmugaapriyan has written a JAVA API framework for development teams to query and access the storage layers. His responsibilities include provisioning, automating, maintaining, and scaling HBase, HDFS, Journal nodes, and Zookeeper components for the Hadoop ecosystem. Shanmugaapriyan has also designed and built a storage system using Apache Cassandra for ZohoCRM’s time-series data. He has developed a JAVA API framework on top of Cassandra’s Thrift layer, which was then migrated to Datastax driver, for efficient access to the Cassandra layer. Shanmugaapriyan has tuned JVM and Cassandra parameters for better performance based on Zoho’s workload and system resources. He has gathered experience in upgrading Cassandra versions, monitoring multi-datacenter setup, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. Shanmugaapriyan has a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, completed in 2014. He has a strong tech stack, including expertise in Cassandra, Hadoop, NoSQL, Java, HDFS, Blockchain, MySQL, Postgres, SQL, Ethereum, Smart Contract, Backend, Big Data, Kubernetes, Docker, and Research Scientist.
