Shantanu Vichare is a passionate software engineer currently working at PayPal. He has always been fascinated by computers and programming, and his curiosity has led him to explore various languages, algorithms, and mathematical concepts. Shantanu's interest in programming began during his first year of engineering at BITS Pilani, where he was introduced to the concept of "Hello World." Since then, he has been hooked and has never looked back. Shantanu's passion for programming is rooted in his desire to solve problems, be creative, and find better ways to do things. During his final semester project, he developed a novel technique for indexing iris images, which challenged his problem-solving, creativity, organization, and parallel processing skills. As we move closer to an all-digital world, Shantanu is dedicated to developing beautiful and powerful things that can make a positive impact on people's lives. Shantanu has worked as a data analyst intern at American Express, where he designed a market-independent modular framework in Spark for automating the Reject Inference process. He also implemented several optimizations for memory-usage control for scalability with data and run-time process tuning. At Samsung, Shantanu worked as a software intern and developed an NLP algorithm capable of doing real-time task prediction from a conversation text on-the-fly. He used NLP techniques like word vectorization, sentence similarity measures to perform intent classification and entity recognition. Shantanu's designed model was able to make accurate predictions for entity recognition and context extraction, which were commonly used in conversations and not explicitly trained under the classification labels. He also realized partial automation of the predicted task by generating a command to be executed by the Bixby Assistant API. Shantanu has a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He also attended Pace Junior College. Shantanu's tech stack includes Software Engineering, Spark, NLP, and Mobile.
