Shaunak Sen is a Senior Data Scientist with a strong technical background and experience in applying data science to diverse areas and businesses. He is currently working at zscaler as a Senior Data Scientist. Shaunak has a keen interest in leading and driving impactful projects and enjoys working on challenging projects and building and leading data teams. Shaunak has previously worked at sparkbox as a Data Scientist, where he built and optimized the machine learning and deep learning models used in production to improve mean squared error by over 10 percent. He created a framework that enables efficient hyperparameter search and tuning to generate a set of hyperparameters that helped achieve better performance. Shaunak also created a framework that can automatically search the best possible combination of models and their respective weights that maximize performance. He helped solve the problem of over-prediction of sales on certain product lines by incorporating quantile regression into the solution that helped provide an estimate of the upper limit of sales. Shaunak worked on implementing unsupervised learning algorithms to cluster sales trends of various department-category combinations and used the cluster information as a feature to encode the dept-cat information for the machine learning models. He also worked on research and development into explainability of the machine learning models and gain insights from them so that the end-users can understand, trust, and implement the solutions in their businesses. Shaunak built an optimization solution that helps retailers choose from a wide range of possible prices to optimize for key metrics and also set different constraints. Shaunak started his career as a Trainee Decision Scientist at Mu Sigma, where he gained an interest in the amazing field of Data Science and Machine Learning. Apart from technical skills, he learned skills like effective communication, working collaboratively in a team, and taking ownership of his projects. He was also awarded a "Spot Award" for his work and enthusiasm to improve existing projects. Shaunak holds a Master's degree in Data Science from the University of Southampton and an Engineer’s Degree in Information Technology from NIT Durgapur. He completed his schooling from Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Kolkata, and South Point High School, Kolkata.
