Sherin Thomas is a seasoned software engineer with over 11 years of relevant experience in the industry. Currently, she holds the position of Senior Software Engineer at Chime, a streaming and big data company. She is responsible for designing and developing software solutions that help Chime meet its business objectives. Prior to her current role, Sherin worked at Netflix as a Senior Software Engineer in the Realtime Data Infrastructure team. Here, she played a crucial role in building the next-generation self-service data movement and processing platform using Kafka, Flink, Mantis, and Iceberg. She was also responsible for improving user confidence in the platform through reliability improvements, data quality audit frameworks, end-to-end latency tracking, anomaly detection, and error attribution. Sherin has also worked as an Advisor at SpaceML, an offshoot of NASA's Frontier Development Lab. Here, she led a team that worked on productionizing a self-supervised reverse image search using deep learning on earth's imagery collected by NASA satellites. The goal was to eventually make this product open source and available for any kind of datasets, not limited to earth science. Sherin has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Florida. Her technical expertise includes software engineering, infra, SQL, Kafka, Big Data, AI, deep learning, research scientist, and search.
