Shervin Minaee is an accomplished machine learning team lead at Snapchat, with over 6 years of industry experience in machine learning and data science. He has also spent over 10 years in research in machine learning, vision, and NLP in academia. Shervin has a PhD in CS and ECE from New York University and a B.Sc. from Sharif University. Prior to his current position at Snapchat, Shervin worked as a data scientist at Expedia, where he developed NLP models for better understanding of user queries using attentional LSTM, Transformers, and BERT. He also developed computer vision models for auto-moderation of all user-generated content at Expedia, where he was the technical lead of the team. Additionally, he mentored projects on image super-resolution using attentional-GAN, image quality enhancement, and self-supervised embedding. Before joining Expedia, Shervin worked as a machine learning researcher at Samsung’s Multimedia Research Group, where he developed a personalized video advertisement framework based on audio-visual convolutional neural networks.
