Shirish Karande is a highly experienced Principal Scientist and Lead for the Deep Learning and Data Sparsity Group in the DLAI Area of TCS Research at Tata Consultancy Services. With over 15 years of relevant experience, Shirish has a strong background in research and development, specializing in networking of devices for automation in homes, offices, and infrastructures. Prior to joining TCS, Shirish worked as a Senior Scientist at Philips, where he was responsible for product conceptualization, identifying business potential, and developing optimization and scheduling algorithms. He also contributed to the development of novel user interfaces. Shirish holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Michigan State University. He also has a Bachelor's degree from Maharashtra Institute of Technology. During his time as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Santa Cruz, Shirish conducted research on the Scaling Law of Ad Hoc Networks, focusing on information flow in networks. He contributed new theoretical results on the impact of network coding, Multi-packet Transmission, and Multi-packet Reception on the network capacity. His research in this area resulted in the multicast throughput order of network coding in wireless ad-hoc networks. Shirish's technical skills include research in Deep Learning, and he has a strong background in Research Science. As the Lead for the Deep Learning and Data Sparsity Group at TCS Research, he is responsible for driving innovation and developing new solutions in this area.
