Shivani Garg is a highly experienced Senior Scientist currently working at LanzaTech. She specializes in applying synthetic biology to engineer LanzaTech's anaerobic acetogen for the production of fuels and chemicals. Her key areas of expertise include metabolic engineering, strain and pathway engineering, gas fermentation, project management, and executing cross-team collaborations. Prior to joining LanzaTech, Shivani worked as a Scientist II at Intrexon Corporation, where she engineered Intrexon's proprietary methanotroph to convert methane into commercially relevant chemicals. She also constructed and screened strain libraries in a high throughput manner for improving solvent tolerance, implemented metabolic engineering strategies to improve strain performance, and worked on gas fermentation. Shivani also has experience as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rice University, where she engineered the reverse beta oxidation pathway in methanotrophic bacteria for bioconversion of methane to butyric and crotonic acids. She also established microbial consortia of diazotrophs and methanotrophs for gas-to-liquid bioconversion of methane to chemicals. She purified proteins at 1-4 L scale for a synthetic 1-carbon fixation pathway validation in vitro. Shivani holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology from UIET, Panjab University. She has over 11 years of relevant experience as a Research Scientist and is proficient in various technologies.
