Shriram Rajagopalan is an accomplished Engineering Manager II with over 8 years of relevant experience in building and working with large software systems at all levels of the software stack. He is currently working at Google, leading and managing the Internal Load Balancing team responsible for several L7 load balancing products in Google Cloud. In 2020, he led efforts to securely connect enterprise data center networks into Google's global network using Google Cloud Interconnect. Shriram is one of the co-founders of Istio service mesh, and over the years, he has helped increase its adoption by working closely with enterprise customers and partners, advocating at various conferences, and building the developer community around the project. Istio was identified as one of the fastest-growing projects across 20M+ projects in all of GitHub. He actively contributes to various open source projects such as Envoy, Amalgam8, Istio, Xen & Linux kernel (in the past), among others. He also used to maintain the Remus HA project that is being shipped with Xen. In his previous role at Tetrate, he led the product architecture for Tetrate Service Bridge, an enterprise-class multi-tenant service mesh platform on top of Istio, that spans heterogeneous environments (Kubernetes, bare metal/VMs, on-prem/cloud), while providing a single pane of glass for routing, security, and observability. He engaged with the larger team to create the product vision, conducted customer research to decide on product features, helped grow the engineering team, interfaced with customers, and was instrumental in signing multi-million dollar deals with the first few customers. Prior to that, at VMware, he explored integrations between the SDN platform and the service mesh, launched NSX-SM, a SaaS platform to manage an Istio-based service mesh across heterogeneous infrastructure. He was involved in product design, scoping, and implementation. Also responsible for integrating NSX-SM with products from other teams (PKS, PCF), as well as exploring partnerships with third-party vendors for a broader reach. He created core building blocks for data-centric policy enforcement and contributed heavily to the open-source control plane (Istio) and data plane (Envoy proxy). Shriram holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of British Columbia, a Master’s Degree from the University of California, and a Bachelor’s Degree from NIT Tiruchirappalli. His tech stack includes Senior
