Sojan James is a system and software architect with over two decades of experience in software development, system and software architecture. He is a "full-stack" system engineer who can work on deeply embedded systems as well as not-so-embedded applications. Sojan has strong knowledge of hardware and software technologies and believes that organizations need architecture too. He uses methods inspired from Software product lines and Scaled agile to design the organization. Sojan is passionate about the Rust programming language and believes it is one of the strong contenders for the system programming language of the future. He is an expert in embedded software, system architecture, system software, software product lines, ISO26262 Functional Safety, Linux, QNX, C++, C, Rust, open-source licensing, multimedia technologies, Yocto Project, HTML5 application frameworks and related technologies, communication protocols, XTend, and SysML. Currently working as a Scientist at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Sojan started working here as part of his final year Engineering project (in 1998) and continued to work here when he was offered a job as he was really enjoying what he was doing. He worked on the development of an Image Processing Toolkit for Computer Vision, implementation of algorithms for Stereo Vision, and Linux drivers for Matrox Video Capture card. Sojan has worked as a Senior Software Engineer at National Semiconductor and as a Technical Manager at Margi India Software Development Center. At Margi India Software Development Center, he worked on Video Middleware for NSC Geode Processor, V4L2 Driver for NSC Geode Processor, Linux BSP for NSC Geode STB Platform, and was a member of the software re-use team at NSC, designing modular architecture for system software re-use. Sojan is an Electronic hobbyist and an Amateur Radio Enthusiast (VU3CIN) and Sailor in training. He writes on Medium, and you can find his personal projects on his Github page. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering from Bangalore University and completed his high school education from St. Joseph's Boys' High School.
