Somil Gupta is a highly skilled Software Engineer with a focus on Machine Learning, NLP, and Systems. He has a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and over 4 years of industry experience working with top tech companies such as Amazon and Google. Currently, Somil is working as a Software Engineer at Google Ads, where he is responsible for working on Ads Formats. He has also completed an internship with Google Ads in Summer 2020. Prior to this, he worked as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon for 2 years, gaining experience in AWS, Event-Driven Systems, and Microservices architecture. Somil is also pursuing independent research under Prof. Hong Yu (UMass BioNLP) on the Role of Domain Knowledge in Conversational Machine Comprehension. He has research experience with deep learning models such as BERT, GAN, FFNN, and RNN, and frameworks like PyTorch and Tensorflow. He has completed advanced courses on Probabilistic Graphical Models, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and is currently taking courses on Reinforcement Learning, Information Retrieval, and Blockchain Technology this Fall (2020). Somil is proficient in JAVA, Python, C++, C, and Typescript, with significant exposure to Spring, Guice, Gradle, Angular, and Git. He has project experience in Hadoop and Spark, making him a competent Data Scientist. Somil's past experiences include working as a Software Development Engineer I and II at Amazon, where he worked on Compliance Technology and Customer and Brand Trust teams, respectively. He gained experience in Akka, Scala, Spring MVC, Guice, AWS, and Web UI, and worked on projects such as a suspicious activity detection system for seller overview data and a data migration platform for successful transition of 2.5 million legacy workflows to the new schema. Somil holds a Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from MNNIT and High School and Intermediate certification from Sheiling House School - India.
