Sophie Zhai is a highly skilled Software Engineer with a focus on Autonomous Driving and Deep Learning. She is currently working as a Core Perception Engineer at mit driverless, where she is responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge algorithms for autonomous vehicles. Prior to this, Sophie worked as a Software Engineer II at Google, where she was a part of the Ads Sim team at Thresholds. In this role, she redesigned the simulation backend for search ads auction and search ads quality. Sophie's expertise in Deep Learning was honed during her time as a Research Assistant at Washington University in St. Louis. Here, she worked under the guidance of Ayan Chakrabarti and leveraged 20,000 albedo/no-flash image pairs to analyze and edit scene illuminants. She utilized Unet and various deep neural networks to encode lighting, normal, and albedo for given images and recombined them to create images that were different from the original lighting conditions. Sophie holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. She also completed a Nanodegree in Self-Driving Car Engineering from Udacity. Her technical skills include Software Engineering, Deep Learning, Search, Backend, test, and Python.
