Soumyaraj Bose is a Data Engineer at Italic with a passion for all things data. He started his career as a Chemical Engineer but his love for numerical methods and computation led him to research renewable energy technologies. He then pursued a Master's in Computational Science from UC San Diego and learned how to solve ODEs and PDEs, model and solve problems using machine learning and deep learning, and automate systems using reinforcement learning. Soumyaraj joined Italic as a Software Engineer in the midst of the pandemic and developed features on the storefront website. He later moved to the Analytics team and has been responsible for moving, cleaning, aggregating, and reporting data to every internal team at Italic. He works closely with engineers to ensure data is available and consistent and with business teams to ensure they know how to use data for their day-to-day decision making. Soumyaraj owns the data and BI pipeline and infrastructure at Italic from end to end. At Italic, Soumyaraj designed and developed an entire data to reporting pipeline from scratch, migrated their previous data infrastructure in BigQuery to Redshift, set up and optimized ETL through Fivetran and Stitch to sync data from Italic’s DB in RDS to Redshift, created and developed scripts to QA data in Redshift, and created data sources and dashboards to power BI reporting for the entire Italic team on Tableau and Mode. He monitored the performance and operating parameters of the entire data infrastructure and maintained consistent end-to-end documentation. Before joining Italic, Soumyaraj worked as an Associate Software Engineer where he developed and tested features on the Italic storefront database, set up servers on Google Cloud Platform, migrated the GCP hosted NoSQL DB to external cloud hosted, and monitored performance and optimized operating parameters for the DB. He also worked as a Research Intern at the University of California San Diego where he developed OpenAI Gym environments for reinforcement learning and developed the dynamic model of the da Vinci arm in Gym using the V-REP software environment with scripts in Python and Lua to automate the model to successfully perform simple tasks. Soumyaraj holds a Master of Science in Computational Science, Mathematics & Engineering from UC San Diego and a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (Goa Campus).
