Sourya Bhattacharyya is an accomplished Instructor at La Jolla Institute for Immunology with over 7 years of experience in the field of computational biology. His research interests span across three key areas, namely computational modeling of gene regulation using chromatin conformation capture (3C) data and genetic variants (QTLs), computational algorithms on phylogenetics and evolutionary trees, and biomedical signal and video processing, machine learning. Sourya has a PhD in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he developed algorithms in Computational Phylogenetics and evolutionary trees. He also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering from Jadavpur University. In his current role as an Instructor at La Jolla Institute for Immunology, Sourya is responsible for computational analysis of Chromatin Structure and Gene Regulation, using Next Generation Sequencing Technologies like HiChIP, HiC. He also identifies causal variants (Quantitative Trait Loci or QTL) using chromatin conformation data, causing disease-specific regulation of genes in immune cells. Additionally, Sourya analyzes bulk RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, single-cell RNA-seq datasets, and develops their processing pipelines, particularly for immune cells. Prior to his current position, Sourya worked as a PhD Student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, where he developed algorithms in Computational Phylogenetics and evolutionary trees. He also worked as a Software Engineer in the Advanced System Technologies (AST) group at STMicroelectronics, where he developed algorithms for video transcoding among different formats and video bit rate control mechanism for supporting low bandwidth. He also integrated audio and video codecs in OpenMax multimedia framework, Mplayer1.08 video library. Sourya's technical skill set includes Research Scientist, ML, Software Engineer, and Integration. He is a highly motivated and results-oriented individual with a passion for computational biology.
