Stefan Muennich is a highly accomplished Software Engineer and Machine Learning expert with over 5 years of relevant experience. Currently working at Google, he is focused on using Machine Learning to improve search ranking of your favorite GIFs. Prior to his current role, Stefan worked as a Data Scientist at Tenor, where he used Machine Learning and Analytics to help understand and improve how people find the perfect GIF for every moment. His technical skills include Python, SQL, Spark, Machine Learning, Analytics (A/B testing, causal inference, defining metrics), and more. In addition, Stefan has also worked as a Data Science Fellow at Insight Data Science, where he built Opinion Detector, a Python web app that detects the level of opinion in news articles. He scraped over 4,000 news articles using the New York Times API and BeautifulSoup and applied text processing, feature extraction, and text analysis methods to clean and prepare the data for modeling. He built a logistic regression model that predicts the degree opinion in news articles with 90% accuracy and deployed the Flask web app on AWS EC2 instance. Stefan holds a PhD in Biophysics and Structural Biology from Hannover Medical School, Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany, and a Postdoctoral Scholar degree in Structural Biology from Stanford University. He also has a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Bioinformatics and Biochemistry from Technische Universität Braunschweig and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Bioinformatics from Fachhochschule Gelsenkirchen.
