Steve Koppelman is a seasoned DevOps Engineer with over 29 years of relevant experience in Linux/Unix/AWS systems administration, Ruby on Rails development, and deployment. He is a Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) and has expertise in DevOps, configuration management, web application architecture, data center automation, deployment tooling, source control management, development workflow, and Agile/Scrum. Currently working as a DevOps Engineer at NBCUniversal Media LLC, Steve has previously worked with Case Commons and Novus Partners in the same role. At Case Commons, he was part of a small team responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining cloud infrastructure for a SaaS case management suite used daily by thousands of state child welfare workers across the state of Indiana. He managed a production environment and 18 additional QA, client acceptance, and development environments all hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS), managed via an in-house Jenkins as a job runner hosting Ansible and other tooling. Core applications were Ruby on Rails, backed by clustered Postgres 9.6, Elasticsearch, and Redis. He also replaced the ELK stack with centralized logging to AWS Cloudwatch and implemented Datadog APM, realizing substantial cost savings over New Relic. At Novus Partners, Steve was part of a small team responsible for buildout, upkeep, and reliability of hundreds of servers in multiple data centers and environments that deliver and support a Big Data SaaS suite used by portfolio and investment managers worldwide. He primarily worked on the Linux side of their infrastructure, including writing and co-maintaining their library of Chef cookbooks, several dozen of which are proprietary. Steve holds a degree in Business and Advanced Conversational Russian; Georgian Language from Indiana University and a BA in Eastern European Studies from the University of Michigan.
