Steven M. is an accomplished executive level software engineering manager, leader, architect, and expert with a broad set of skills and experience technically and managerially in embedded and real-time system software, storage, file systems, operating system development, virtualization, and large-scale product architecture and development. Currently, he holds the position of Head of Engineering at Amazon. Steven has a proven track record of transforming, designing, and leading world-class software development organizations, as evidenced by his previous role as Senior Director SW Engineering, Sr. Distinguished Engineer at Dell. He took an initial team of 60+ engineers, directors, and senior managers and transformed it into a team of 200+ spread across the globe within the PowerMax product group. This team is responsible for developing the PowerMax OS Enterprise Storage array software and driving design and innovation into future products. Steven maintains, recruits, and grows a diverse set of highly skilled talent within the team, consisting of various directors, managers, and engineers of all levels. He is also the executive sponsor for the PowerMax product group on college recruiting initiatives. Steven promotes and champions the best software development practices, using the select elements of Agile, Waterfall, Automation, and other DevOps methodologies to meet the best practical needs of the organization in order to create high-quality software and deliver it on time for a product line that generates more than $3 Billion in annual revenue. He works closely with customers on events and escalations, resolving problems and providing fixes and solutions to the customers quickly for any issues that arise in the field. Steven is also the product owner of the initial VMAX and PowerMax NVMe All Flash systems, responsible for technical content and shepherding them from early development through GA release, ensuring high quality on-time releases and reporting out to the business on product stability and readiness. Steven is a member of the executive management team driving direction, business, and technical strategy for the VMAX and PowerMax product lines. He provides input to others and defines and creates world-class leading teams and organizational structures. Steven's technical expertise is complemented by his academic qualifications, including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire and a Master's degree in Software Engineering from Brandeis University.
