Sumeet Vaidya is an accomplished engineering leader with over 12 years of experience across various domains. He is currently the Director of Engineering at Discord, where he manages the Communities and Creators groups responsible for helping large servers and online creators create homes for their communities. Sumeet has led zero-to-one teams building everything from nascent products to larger teams while establishing a strong engineering culture. He has navigated teams through hyper-growth, layoffs, and major shifts in company strategy, which has given him an extensive track record of hiring and developing great engineering talent. Prior to his role at Discord, Sumeet worked as an Engineering Manager at Uber, where he managed all third-party integrations enabling vehicle providers to feature their vehicles on Uber's platform. He was an early member of the bikes and scooters team after the JUMP acquisition before leading rider growth, experience, infrastructure, data engineering, and 3P API. Sumeet also handled technical due diligence for the sale of JUMP to Lime. Before Uber, he worked as a Software Engineer at Facebook, where he worked on the Groups infrastructure as a backend, frontend, and iOS engineer. Sumeet rebuilt the team as Facebook decided to reinvest in the product as one of two initial engineers. He also helped ship the Groups standalone app while contributing to the first major release of React Native. Sumeet holds a Master's degree in Computer Science - Software Systems from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the same university.
