Sumit Borar is a technology leader with more than 15 years of experience in building large-scale ML and Engineering products and platforms for Payments, E-Commerce, and Online Advertising businesses. He is currently an Engineering Lead for Financial Products and Machine Learning at Google, where he leads Engineering and Risk teams for Financial Products, including credit cards and loans. He is also responsible for leading ML Platforms and Smarts teams. Sumit has built and managed high-performance global teams across the US, India, and Singapore. He has worked at Google for several years, where he was previously an Engineering and ML Lead for GPay. In this role, he led ML Engineering and ML Application teams for Google Pay to make it the smartest payments app. He built and recruited the team from scratch across India and Singapore. He initiated, led, planned, and built a charter for ML Platforms that enables personalization and ranking use cases for India, US, and Singapore Gpay Users. These platforms simplify development, life-cycle management, and serving of ML models for hundreds of millions of users in real-time and batch modes. Sumit is passionate about data privacy and building novel privacy-safe ML modeling techniques and engineering systems to unlock the power of data across organizations. He has also worked at Myntra, where he was a Senior Director, leading storefront data science, data engineering, and operational data science teams. This encompassed customer shopping experience, smart inventory management, logistics, and data engineering systems. Sumit holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from the University of Mumbai. His tech stack includes ML, Data Engineering, and Data Scientist, and he has relevant experience of 16.63 years.
