Sumit Kumar is a Senior Engineering Manager at Hackerrank with over 7 years of relevant experience in the field of data engineering. He has a proven track record of setting up and growing data cultures from scratch and scaling them to handle millions and billions of data points. In his current role at Hackerrank, Sumit has built a "Data transformation platform" from scratch and led a team to build a "Data integration platform" with the aim of data democratisation. These platforms handle most of the use-cases present with data and have pushed the company to be more data-centric. He has also helped build a team of up to 10 distributed data engineers from a non-existent team of 2 engineers in a span of 3 years along with fulfilling the analytics requirement of the organisation and ever-growing data. Prior to his current role, Sumit worked as an Engineering Manager at Postman where he mentored and grew a remote team of 10 members from 5 office-based people by remotely hiring and smoothening out processes of onboarding, on-call, contribution, and collaboration. He also scaled the data engineering team to handle 10s of TeraBytes of data from 100s of GigaBytes by designing isolated interfaces in storage and compute. Sumit also improved the experience of 17M users of Postman API Platform via Search and Enterprise Reporting by building systems for data sourcing from the data warehouse. Sumit's past experiences also include working as a Senior Software Engineer at Minewhat, Inc where he developed product level modules for internal product releases and led the data team of the company providing back-end support for the process, coordinating team members based on requirements. Sumit holds a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Science from Guru Ghasidas University.
