Sumit Malik is a highly skilled and experienced Tech Lead with a strong background in software engineering. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Amazon, Microsoft, and Bankbazaar, and is currently working as a Technical Lead at Myntra. Sumit is a graduate of Stony Brook University, where he completed his MS in Computer Science. Sumit's areas of interest include Algorithms/Data Structures, Parallel/Distributed programming, Hadoop (MapReduce), and Machine Learning. He has a wealth of experience in designing and developing complex systems, and is always looking for new and innovative ways to improve performance and reduce costs. At Myntra, Sumit leads the promotions team, which is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of coupons. He has made significant contributions to the platform, including the introduction of Kafka and Redis's Lua script capabilities to handle tricky race conditions. He has also proposed a design to reduce the overall size of MySQL storage by 5x and has utilized Redis's bloom filter data structure to reduce overall Redis's memory footprint by 50%. Prior to Myntra, Sumit worked as a Tech Lead Backend at Slicepay, where he architected the backend to enable part of the UI layout of the mobile app to be controlled by the backend. He also introduced distributed processing using AWS SQS to scale bill generation and other crons, reducing running time from 1 day to less than 30 minutes. Sumit's experience at Bankbazaar includes working on the campaign management team responsible for automated management and execution of promotional campaigns across Bankbazaar. He worked on all the subsystems which were part of campaign management, including a Java-based microservice for end-to-end management and configuration of campaigns. Sumit's education includes a B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, and an MS in Computer Science from Stony Brook University.
