Sung Kim is a Lead Engineer at Self Financial with over 8 years of relevant experience in software engineering, architecture, and management. He specializes in creating event-driven microservices using containers, lambda, kubernetes, streaming, and other cloud technologies, coupled with infrastructure code such as terraform and helm. Sung's architecture work is focused on coming up with solutions and fleshing them out with designs, diagrams, docs, and how various cloud technologies and tech stack would be utilized to solve problems. He discusses these solutions with appropriate stakeholders such as architects, principal engineers, etc. As a manager and communicator, Sung works with PMs, stakeholders, architects to obtain and refine requirements and works with his engineering team to translate the requirements into tasks. He assigns and works on those tasks in a flexible manner. Currently, Sung is in charge of the martech team at Self Financial and is responsible for coordinating with stakeholders, management, and engineers on the team. He writes up and presents architecture and design diagrams for services being built out, builds event-driven containerized microservices using Python, Docker, AWS Lambda/Kinesis/SNS/SQS/etc., and Terraform. Sung's main technologies include Python3.9, Terraform, Lucidchart, AWS, SQL, Dynamo, Docker, and Jira. In the past, Sung has worked at Vectra AI and Planoly as a Senior Software Engineer and Senior Data Engineer, respectively. At Vectra AI, he developed and maintained cloud-based microservices utilizing Containers, ECR, EKS Clusters, and Kubernetes to pipe large datasets and provide large volume API services. At Planoly, he built various GraphQL APIs using Node JS consumed by their web and mobile app, maintained and modeled data storage (DynamoDB, GCP Big Query, and MySQL), and developed and maintained microservices deployed in AWS using serverless Lambda or EC2 designed for real-time data collection. Sung holds a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the same institution.
