Sunil Govindan is an experienced software engineer with a passion for open source technology. With close to 16 years of experience in various Platform and Middleware projects, he has expertise in the resource scheduling/orchestrators domain. He is currently working as an Engineering Manager at Cloudera, Santa Clara, in the Data Engineering & Compute R&D Core Engineering team. His focus is on Kubernetes resource scheduling for Apache Spark workloads. Sunil is an Apache YuniKorn (Incubating) PMC Member and Committer and one of the founding members of the YuniKorn resource scheduler for Kubernetes and YARN. He is also an Apache Hadoop PMC Member and Committer, and an active contributor and evangelist to the Apache Hadoop OpenSource community since 2013. He has worked on almost all components in Apache Hadoop YARN, including its core scheduler performance enhancements, multiple resource support, preemption features, security components, Docker & networking, storage (CSI, S3, etc.), and many more. Sunil has expertise in various Hadoop Ecosystems like HDFS, MapReduce, Knox, ZooKeeper, Hive, HBase, and Apache Spark, among others. He has also worked at Juniper Networks for their new distributed routing operating system called Junos Evo and joined Huawei India R&D Bangalore in July 2007 as a Software Engineer. He has experience in the core IP/TCP networking stack and in application protocols such as SIP, HTTP, etc. He has also worked in Linux Networking Kernel (Load Balancing) for packet routing (NAT, Tunneling). Sunil has a Master of Computer Applications degree from Cochin University of Science and Technology (2004) and a BSc in Mathematics from Devamatha College, M G University (2001). His tech stack includes Senior Software Engineer, Hadoop, Kubernetes, Spark, Software Engineer, HDFS, Data Engineering, MapReduce, Docker, Apache Hive, Deep Learning, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, among others. With relevant experience of 16.20 years, Sunil is a valuable asset to any company that values open source technology and resource scheduling/orchestrators domain expertise.
