Sunil Kamalakar is a dedicated and passionate engineering manager with over 4 years of experience in management. Currently, Sunil is a Staff Engineer at Apple. Previously, he worked at Groupon as an Engineering Manager II - Data Platform and Engineering Manager. At Groupon, he led two data platform teams of 16+ software engineers, defined team vision and strategy, and partnered with cross-functional teams. Sunil grew the team from 8 to 16 people, retained talent, and promoted people. He founded the Data Science Platform/Machine Learning Infrastructure team with ownership of home-grown on-premise ML systems and delivered a cloud migration strategy, implementation with AWS Sagemaker & MLFlow. Sunil also evangelized and built the product roadmap for a feature-engineering platform ingesting and serving real-time & batch machine learning features for data-scientists. Sunil holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Science from Vishveshwaraiah Technological University.
