Susmita Ghose is a highly accomplished Head of Data Science with a passion for telling stories with data. With over 16 years of relevant experience, she has a track record of building and leading high-performing data science and machine learning teams. She is an expert in statistics/experimentation, time series forecasting, machine learning, and deep learning. Currently, Susmita is the Head of Data Science at Alphonso Inc., where she defined and architected the data science roadmap. She built and led a data science and machine learning team from the ground up, providing guidance, mentorship, technical and hands-on assistance. She led efforts from ideation and research to deployment and evangelized data science best practices across the company. Susmita has published blogs, white papers, and patents to highlight achievements and insights observed and improve Alphonso's proprietary stack. During her tenure at Alphonso, Susmita has worked on and managed a variety of impactful projects. These include detection of television advertisements using video-based 3D convolutional neural network, ad detection from text (video caption) using NLP techniques, measurement of ad effectiveness, construction of device graph based on internet activity, and detection of small communities representing physical households used to map TV watching habits to a variety of behavioral decisions at the level of households. She has also correlated TV viewership to political affiliation for effective advertisement and predicted brand advertisement spend on TV used by brands and competitors for media planning. Before Alphonso, Susmita worked as Data Science Lead, Aruba Networks at Rasa Networks (acquired by Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company). She designed and implemented a patented system to cluster and rank events in vast Wi-Fi networks and built a device classifier based on their RF (Radio Frequency) signatures used for downstream analytics such as categorizing issues by device type. Prior to that, she was a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Oracle, where she was the lead researcher and developer of the Oracle Crystal Ball analytics team. Susmita holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Software Reliability Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Industrial Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Her tech stack includes Data Scientist, ML, CNN, Deep Learning, NLP, Research Scientist, Neural Networks, and Software Engineer.
