Syed Yusuf Ali is a graduate research assistant at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with a strong background in mechanical engineering. He has a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Aligarh Muslim University. Syed has a keen interest in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and computational simulation of physical phenomenon. He is actively seeking challenging engineering problems to work on and is always eager to learn new skills. Currently, Syed works in Professor Natalia Trayanova's Computational Cardiology Laboratory, where he performs cardiovascular simulations. He is responsible for point set registration of cardiac MRI data models, optimizing Cardiac Arrhythmia Research Package (CARP) using GPUs, designing new visualization software for viewing 3D MRI segmented cardiac models, and documenting sections of CARP's code to help future lab members. Previously, Syed worked as a research assistant in Professor Trayanova's lab, where he optimized CARP and designed new visualization software. He also worked as a graduate student researcher in the Computational Multiphase Flow Group under Professor Gretar Tryggvason. There, he studied the microfluidic phenomenon of inertial focusing of a bubble in a microfluidic channel and investigated the critical point beyond which microfluidic devices stop sorting cells. Syed's education includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, which he is expected to complete in 2025. He also has a Master's degree in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Aligarh Muslim University. Additionally, he has completed a professional certificate program in data science from edX. Syed's technical skills include research science, and he has 0.43 years of relevant experience.
