Tom Barbalet is a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer with over 27 years of relevant experience in the tech industry. Currently, he is working with Netflix as a Senior Software Engineer, where he is responsible for AB tests and the full release cycle of the iOS app. He is also the sole maintainer of the legacy AppleTV Netflix experience and has created the server code for the tvOS app and the subtitle/audio handling. Through his role, he coordinates directly with Apple engineers and management. Tom has a proven track record of working on error handling, subtitles/audio, logging for streaming and offline on the iOS app. Netflix on AppleTV and the iOS app are watched by tens of millions of users. These products are developed in Objective-C and C++ with Xcode, Stash/GIT, and JIRA. The server-side coding is in Groovy, and the legacy AppleTV is in JavaScript. Prior to joining Netflix, Tom worked with apesdk as a Creator, where he developed the ApeSDK (formerly known as the Nervana Project and Noble Ape), an artificial life project with a non-polygonal graphics engine, an JSON parser, and an interpreted language, ApeScript. It is written in C, Swift, Objective C, Java, and Node.js. From 2003-2009, Apple Computer distributed it with every new Macintosh sold and demonstrated the technology to their third-party developers. From 2005-2011, INTEL used the technology to test the mathematical power of their new processors. Tom has also worked with ATI as a Senior Software Engineer, where he filed thirty-seven invention disclosures resulting in eight patents and received Inventor of the Year in 2010. He taught three groups of engineers on various programming languages and principles in computational simulation and avatars. His role involved implementing solutions for the high volume SOAP/XML data interface between the company's platform and the internal and third-party systems working with the company's platform through Agile in C/C++ through Visual Studio and GCC.
