Tom Vu is an accomplished Head of Data Science and Machine Learning with over 17 years of relevant experience. Currently, he is serving as the Head of Data Science and Machine Learning at Flexport, where he is responsible for driving the company's data-driven strategy and overseeing the development of machine learning solutions. Prior to joining Flexport, Tom worked as the Senior Director and Head of Data Science and Analytics at WeWork, where he led a team of machine learning scientists and data engineers. In this role, he was responsible for identifying and realizing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning opportunities, including predicting construction schedules, automating interior design, and economic modeling and revenue prediction. He was actively involved in recruiting, teaching, developing, and leading a team of machine learning scientists and data engineers. Before WeWork, Tom served as the Chief Data Scientist at Boeing, where he led a centralized team of machine learning data scientists and delivered over $1.7B in recurring value. He co-founded and led the Boeing-Carnegie Mellon University Aerospace Data Analytics Lab, where he created and directed a comprehensive portfolio of machine learning solutions utilizing Natural Language Understanding, Time-series Analysis, Decision Support Systems, Recommender Systems, and Computer Vision. He also authored three patents and invention disclosures. Tom holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Business Administration, Management, and Operations from the University of Washington.
