Tom Wiedenbein is a highly experienced Site Reliability/DevOps Professional with over 11 years of experience in the field. He is a driven individual with a passion for automation and an eye for detail. Tom has worked in heterogeneous environments, utilizing multiple programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, node.js, Go, and Ruby. Throughout his career, he has had a positive impact on the services and teams he has been responsible for. Tom has a strong belief that a good relationship between development teams and traditional operations teams is crucial to the success of an effective site reliability/DevOps team. He works hard to ensure harmony between these teams and has a proven track record of success in this area. Currently, Tom is a Senior Staff Infrastructure Engineer at Wish, where he is the lead observability engineer. He is responsible for working on real-time metrics, real user monitoring, synthetic monitoring, distributed tracing, and more. He is helping to lead Wish's site performance efforts in order to improve the user experience. Tom is also responsible for implementing processes and systems to assist in the incident management lifecycle. He has been working remotely since 2018. Prior to joining Wish, Tom worked as a Staff Infrastructure Engineer at LinkedIn and as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at SlideShare. At LinkedIn, he was responsible for a range of tasks, including capacity planning, service go-live, software development, architectural design, and operational support of a heterogeneous set of applications. Tom was also involved in the migration of the SlideShare platform from Softlayer to LinkedIn-owned data centers, where he discovered performance issues that would have resulted in severe impact when ramping traffic. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Information Technology from Central Michigan University, where he graduated in 2013. He also attended Delta College in 2005. Tom's technical skills include SRE, infra, DevOps, JavaScript, NodeJS, Python, Ruby, Java, Kafka, Mobile, and Software Engineering.
