Trushar Barot is a seasoned media professional with over 23 years of experience in the British, Indian, and global media industry, across newspapers, TV, radio, and online. He has a passion for bringing innovation to the way mobile and digital technology is used in journalism and in the digital world more broadly. Trushar's skills and experience include social media, digital and mobile strategy and delivery, editorial use of voice Artificial Intelligence interfaces and machine learning, messaging apps and digital media product development and partnerships, social media production, newsgathering and crisis management, managing pan-organizational digital development projects, and more. He is a BBC News thought leader and public speaker on mobile and messaging platforms and digital development. Currently, Trushar is the Strategic Partner Development at Meta, where he leads on integrity news partnerships for Facebook in India. His role includes managing Facebook's third-party fact-checking (3PFC) program in India, running the Facebook Journalism Project training programs for India, developing news literacy initiatives, managing training programs on Facebook tools, and leading regional collaborative product development with the news industry. He works with cross-functionality teams, including Policy, Product, Crisis Response, Programs, Partnerships, and Communications. Previously, Trushar worked at BBC World Service as the Editorial Lead for the BBC 'Beyond Fake News' initiative in India, where he commissioned a season of digital content in 7 languages, organized six conferences in six cities across India, developed a curriculum and training material for schools and colleges on how to spot fake news, and more. He also worked as the Digital Launch Editor for BBC Indian Languages, where he headed up social media and digital strategy, training, digital production processes, and journalism projects for the BBC's expanded Delhi bureau. Trushar holds a Master's degree in Contemporary British Politics from Goldsmiths College, U. of London, and has completed a Visiting Fellowship in Journalism from Harvard University and a Journalism Fellowship in Messaging Apps in the news industry from the Tow Center.
