Umesh Prasad is a highly skilled Platform/Backend Engineer with over 15 years of experience in building, scaling, and performance engineering of search and data platforms. Currently, he works as a Principal Engineer at embibe, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining the search and data platform. Umesh has extensive experience in working with big data technologies, including storage, queues, background jobs, and data pipelines. He is a Lucene/Solr/Elasticsearch Hacker and has a deep understanding of search platform evolution. Umesh has experience in building platforms in the face of ambiguous and evolving requirements and scale and has worked with clusters of various sizes, ranging from 10 servers to 1000 servers. Prior to his current role, Umesh worked as a Senior Principal Engineer at unacademy, where he led the search and discover team. He has also worked as a Consultant/Educator/Learner/Funder, where he focused on providing quality education to rural kids and first-generation learners. Umesh has collaborated with various NGOs, such as Sikshana Foundation, Agastya Foundation, and Shiksha Sopan, to achieve his goal of providing quality education to underprivileged children. Umesh holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Materials Science & Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
