Urjit Singh Bhatia is a Senior Software Engineer at ClassDojo, a communication platform that empowers teachers, parents, and students to share what's happening throughout the school day. He is an MS-Computer Science graduate from Georgia Tech with over 12 years of experience in software engineering. Urjit is an amateur photographer, avid book reader, and poetry lover who likes to work on a breadth of technologies, creating innovative solutions to novel problems. Urjit has worked on a variety of projects, including product search, recoverable virtual memory, Machine Learning boosted CAD design augmentation, and recommendation systems for adaptive learning. His expertise lies in Services Platforms, Application Development, Search, Machine Learning, and Adaptive Systems. He is proficient in Java and Python and has worked with tools such as OpenCV, Apache Solr, Android SDK, Cassandra, Git, AWS, Thrift, MsgPack, and Redis. Urjit is also familiar with frameworks like Google Guice & Guava, AWS API, Apache VFS, Chef-Solo, Boto, and ZooKeeper. Before joining ClassDojo, Urjit worked at Knewton as a Senior Software Engineer and Software Engineer. At Knewton, he contributed to services that formed the Adaptive Learning technology stack, developed automation tools for handling AWS stacks using CloudFormation, and designed an internal service load testing system with big data. He also improved scalability by identifying bottlenecks and adapting the service platform, designed inter-service communication protocols, and worked on Graph Data services and On/Off heap caching. Urjit holds an MS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Information Technology from Charotar University, and completed his high school education in Science from Navrachana Higher Secondary School. He has a diverse set of skills, including Software Engineering, AWS, ML, Search, Recommendation systems, OpenCV, Redis, Cassandra, Python, Java, Android, and Big Data.
