Varad Bhatnagar is a Research Engineer at IBM Research AI with a background in Computer Science Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is a skilled Research Scientist with expertise in AI, Blockchain, Spark, Software Engineering, and Search. Currently, Varad is working as a Research Assistant at the Fake News Detection Research Group at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He has previously worked as a System Engineer Intern at Blue Bricks Pty Ltd, where he configured a Blockchain-based backup for banking transactions to provide immutability and safeguard against the loss of data in conventional DB. He has also worked on a POC on crypto currency exchange ledger and explored Stellar Ecosystem in which real and crypto currencies can be exchanged at almost no cost. Varad has also worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Microsoft, where he worked in the Satori Ranking Team under Bing Search. He worked on a project where the goal was to migrate existing Cosmos Jobs to a Spark cluster. The Spark cluster was running on underutilized machines, which had a great financial impact as it led to efficient utilization of computing power as well as cost-cutting. He contributed significantly to debugging legacy code as well as adding features and covering corner cases encountered during conversion. Varad has a Master of Technology degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, which he is expected to complete in 2022. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Technology from Army Institute of Technology, Pune.
