Akhil Gudesa is a highly motivated and skilled software engineer currently working at Databricks. He has a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from IIT Indore and over 2.6 years of relevant experience in the field. Akhil is a problem-solver at heart and loves participating in algorithmic programming contests that test his proficiency in algorithms, data structures, and mathematics. He is a 2020 ICPC World Finalist and has used a variety of programming languages including C++, Scala, Python, C, SQL, Java, Apache Spark, MATLAB, CUDA, and Javascript. Akhil is particularly interested in High-Performance Computing and building systems that scale. He is excited about designing and building large, low-latency, distributed, and efficient infrastructure under high-performance requirements that deal with large amounts of data. He has experience working with Databricks, SQL, and Spark, and is always looking to expand his knowledge and skills. In addition to his current role at Databricks, Akhil has also worked as a Research Assistant at Nanyang Technological University, where he was engaged in research on Automatic Short Answer Scoring. He was also a 2019 Google Summer of Code student w/OSGeo, where he was one of only two selected under pgRouting, a Postgres extension which extends the PostGIS/PostgreSQL geospatial database to provide geospatial routing and other network analysis functionality. During this time, he implemented two algorithms - Binary Breadth-First Search and Edward Moore’s algorithm from scratch in pgRouting using C, C++, and SQL and ported the Breadth-First Search algorithm present in Boost C++’s library to the pgRouting environment. Akhil’s tech stack includes Databricks, SQL, Research Scientist, Spark, test, Javascript, infra, Python, Scala, Java, Search, and Postgres. He is always looking to learn and grow in his field and is open to new opportunities that will allow him to expand his knowledge and skills.
