Viraj Bhalala is a skilled Backend Software Engineer with over 5 years of experience in intensive data applications and distributed systems. He is proficient in Java and Python and has a good understanding of ML and Spark. Currently, Viraj works as a Senior Software Engineer at Salesforce, where he is responsible for developing and maintaining Salesforce's backend systems. Prior to this, he worked at Optum as a Sr. Software Engineer and Sr. Software Engineer - ML. At Optum, he worked on developing and maintaining resilient Java Spring Boot microservices APIs and Apache Spark Scala data pipelines to make healthcare practitioners' data available and searchable from ElasticSearch that is consumed by all insurance members and multiple enterprise services. He also developed and owned scalable ETL data pipelines using Spark, Airflow, and Azure to transfer raw data of 10+ major care delivery organizations from on-premise data warehouse (later on Snowflake) to Azure Blob as well as transform and preprocess raw data into a more usable common data format that allows other data scientists to easily consume it. Viraj has a Master of Computer Science degree from the University of Illinois, where he studied Data Science. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Business from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He completed his high school education at Bloomfield High School. Viraj is comfortable working with diverse people and is a good team player.
